10/17/03 ATTENTION ALUMNI: PLEASE READ
WJTB is in desperate need of your
support. Think back to when you were a student at NJIT.
Didn't you wish you had a place where you could voice your opinion
on any issue without reprieve? Where you could hear news, sports, weather, and music being played by your friends live?
Wanted to be able to call the Provost and tell him what you think?
Oh sure, you had The Vector.
But let's face it, The Vector comes out only once a week. For 6
days you had to keep your opinion to yourself. And even then,
the opinions and articles that make it into The Vector are carefully
screened. WJTB broadcasts from 10AM-10PM, 5 days a week.
But there's a problem.
WJTB needs support. To be quite
honest, we need money. We need donations of any kind.
We're desperate.
We represent the greatest coverage
for the student voice on campus, yet our budget has been slashed over the last 3 years. The administration wants
results; they want to have a campus radio station just like the
other thousands of universities out there. Yet WJTB runs into
red tape everywhere. Budget cuts, sponsorship issues, etc.
We are just a handful of students; you are a multitude of alumni.
The biggest problem is that this year
(2003F-2004S) we spent the bulk of our money on necessary equipment
that we desperately needed, such as office and studio computers, and
FM broadcasting equipment (that stuff isn't cheap). But our
biggest costs are yet to come. NJIT will not install our FM transmitter and
antenna; they say we need to have
an outside company install it. We can only guess what that
will cost us (our estimates are several thousand dollars). Then
there is the cost for our LPFM10 FCC license. The FCC has not
said what that will cost yet.
BOTTOM LINE:
Alumni, WJTB needs your support now
more than ever. Call your alumni director and say "I want
WJTB to be a prominent force on campus. What can I do to
help?" Call the Provost at (973)596-3220 and tell him the
students want a radio station, but we need
help. But most of all, call us! Call WJTB's office line
at (new number coming soon) and give us your support. Own a business and
looking to advertise? We're here.
Keeping the faith,
WJTB "Geek Radio"

Remember when.....
WJTB's original call letters were
WNCE and it was 550 AM?
How we had to change to WJTB because
a commercial radio station stole WNCE away for it's "nice"
music format?
Thank you to Bill Harrity of Louisville
KY for the tee shirt prints and history.
